Dental bridges are a solution to missing teeth, as well as those that are decayed, damaged, or chipped. It is similar to a crown, in that a cap is made to replace the missing or damaged tooth. However, the tooth itself is often missing or extracted, so there is no filing down. Instead, the dentist creates a bridge that goes from the surrounding teeth, over the gap, and connects to the opposite side of the gap.
The bridge is made from porcelain, ceramic, resin, or other metals. It is made to match the patient's teeth. The dentist places the bridge onto the healthy, surrounding tooth, over the gap where one or more teeth are missing, and onto the other surrounding healthy tooth. It creates a seamless and natural-looking solution to a gap.
